First Year Experience

What is the First Year Experience program?

With the guidance of University faculty, staff and peer mentors, students participating in the First Year Experience (FYE) program will be able to adjust to the campus and find the programs and resources they need quickly. The FYE program is designed to meet the developmental, intellectual, cultural, and social needs of first year students* as they make the transition to CSU Channel Islands.

*Although the name of the program is “First Year Experience,” all students, regardless of class standing, are invited to participate in the workshops, seminars and events being offered.

What will I be able to do as part of the FYE program?

Various workshops will be offered by the Advising Center, Library, C.H.A.P.s, and Financial Aid throughout the academic year. These workshops will cover everything from improvement of academic and computer skills to learning more about one’s self through career, health, wellness, and service workshops.

What else will I do in the FYE program?

Other events and activities will be offered by the Division of Student Affairs from the Office of Student Development and Recreation and Leisure Services. The goal of this series is to build a student community that connects students to life on campus through various fun events and activities. Students will have the opportunity to get to know one another, become more aware of the diversity on campus and in the local communities, get involved through volunteerism, gain perspective with regards to world issues, and above all, have FUN!
