Biography

Dr. Sohui Lee joined CSU Channel Islands in July 2015. Previously she taught courses, lead workshops, and tutored students and faculty at Stanford University for fourteen years, specializing in academic writing, visual design, oral presentations, writing pedagogy, and multiliteracy center studies. While Assistant Director of Stanford's Hume Center for Writing and Speaking, she launched initiatives that expanded the Center's services to Stanford's graduate students for the first time: this included funding programs such as graduate tutoring, workshops, and dissertation boot camps. As Associate Director at Stanford, she started the Digital Media Program. Dr. Lee has published in leading composition and writing center studies journals (Writing Center Journal, WLN, Praxis, Computers and Composition), contributed to numerous book collections. From 2017 to 2020, she was Associate Editor at WLN: A Journal of Writing Center Scholarship. Dr. Lee is co-editor of the Routledge Reader on Writing Centers and New Media (2013), nominated for IWCA Outstanding Book/Major Work Award. She is co-author of Design for Composition: Creative Projects for Inspired Visual and Multimodal Arguments (Parlor Press, September 2023) and co-editor of Disruptive Stories from Writing Center Margins (Utah State University Press, May 2024).

In addition to multiliteracy and writing pedagogy, Dr. Lee enjoys teaching and publishing articles on literature. With a Ph.D. in English and American Literature, Dr. Lee specialized in Anglo-American transatlantic literature, 19th c American literature, and periodical literature.

As Faculty Director of the Writing & Multiliteracy Center, Dr. Lee successfully secured over $2.3 million in external funds and internal grants to expand and improve programming in STEM writing, embedded tutoring, and data literacy. She is also one of the founders and coordinators of CSUCI's annual Plot-A-Thon: Data Visualization Festival. She enjoys promoting and expanding the culture of writing and communication at CI by constantly innovating ways to support all its students.
