The Edu Corps program is a collaboration between the Center for Community Engagement and Federal Work Study. Edu Corps members provide homework, literacy, and mentoring activities and support to elementary-age school children. A majority of these activities will be supporting elementary school-age children and participating in teacher-directed activities. The Edu Corps will participate in directed activities, computer literacy programs, homework assistance, and general duties as required. Various sites throughout the Oxnard, Camarillo, Ventura, and Somis areas are available.

Applicants must be:

  • a current CSUCI undergraduate student
  • Federal Work Study eligible
  • commit to working 10-15 hours per week in the fall and spring semesters
  • available afternoon or early evening for some locations
  • make a one-year commitment
  • have reliable transportation to the site
  • Pay rate: $20.00 an hour

  • Ashley Tomasetti

    Ashley Tomasetti

    Ashley Tomasetti is a senior, majoring in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Bilingual Authorization. Ashley is interested in Edu Corps because it will provide her will experience as an elementary school teacher. She believes this position will be a great starting point to a lifelong career in education. After graduation, Ashley plans to attend grad school at Cal Lutheran for their Masters & Teaching Credential program. She will be providing academic homework support at Somis School.
  • Diana Bello

    Diana Bello

    Diana Bello is a senior, majoring in Psychology and minoring in English Creative Writing. She believes that it’s important to know what’s going on in the community so that positive changes can be made, if needed. After graduation, she plans to work for 1-2 years and then apply to grad school to earn a master’s in social work. Diana will be providing academic homework support at CEDC’s Villa Cesar Chavez.
  • Leonardo Munoz

    Leonardo Munez

    Leonardo Munoz is a sophomore, majoring in Biology. He is interested in this position because he has a passion for working with children and aspires to be the role model all children should have. After graduation, Leonardo plans to attend medical school and pursue a career in pediatrics. He will be providing academic homework support at the Boys & Girls Club of Camarillo.
  • Sarahi Rivera

    Sarahi Rivera

    Sarahi Rivera is a junior, majoring in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Bilingual Authorization. She is attracted to this position because she could work closely with farmworker’s children. After graduation, Sarahi plans to teach at a local elementary school and wants to guide future students with creative and positive teachings. She wants to share positivity, guidance, and knowledge with her community. Sarahi will be providing academic homework support at CEDC’s Meta St. Apartments.
  • Analyssa Provencio

    Analyssa Provencio is a senior, majoring in Liberal Studies with an emphasis in Teaching and Learning. She was interested in this position because it provides direct experience in a classroom setting. After graduation, Analyssa plans to complete a multiple subject teacher credential and work as an elementary school teacher. She will be providing academic homework support at Somis School.
  • Giovanni Olivo

    Giovanni Sebas Olivo

    Sebas Olivo is a senior, majoring in Studio Art and minoring in Computer Game Design & Development. He is attracted to the position because he it provides the opportunity to give back to his community, particularly our youth. He believes it is important to be involved in the community, especially with youth, because it is a direct way to positively affect our future. After graduation, Sebas plans to begin his career as a game developer and work at an animation or game studio. He will be providing academic homework support at the Boys & Girls Club of Camarillo.
  • Elizabeth Flores

    Elizabeth Flores

    Elizabeth Flores is a sophomore, majoring in English and minoring in Spanish. She was attracted to this position because she’s able to work directly with children. She enjoys learning how to help those in need and having an impact on future generations. After graduation, Elizabeth plans work as a paralegal and attend law school. She will be providing academic homework support at Somis School.
  • Jacqueline Manriquez

    Jacqueline Manriquez

    Jacquline Manriquez is a first year, majoring in Health Science and minoring in Spanish. She was attracted to this position because it allowed working with children. After graduation, Jacqueline would like to attend grad school and pursue a career in the health field working with children. She will be providing academic homework support at CEDC’s Camino Gonzalez Apartments.
